by Carson McCullers
Surprise! For at least. Reading McCullers book I realised that communist ideas were once topical in the US. At least she had a certain sympathy for these ideas despite of teh fact that the followers of Karl Marx are portrayed as embittered people, almost autist. That is true for almost all protagonists in this book. A bunch of outsiders which groups around the deaf-dumb Jon Singer.
A wonderful novel which makes you feel compassionate with each of these outsiders. The events take place somwhere in the Southern states of the US in the year when world war II started in Europe.
