by Rubem Fonseca
Alternative literature! It is not like Bukowski, it is real literature, it is Rubem Fonseca from Rio de Janeiro. I discovered him via a podcast where they praised him as the bad guy of Brazilian literature. I guess it is the language he uses to picture his characters. For simple people he uses a gross language. And he does not mask the violence the Brazilian society is ridden by. Corrupt policemen, politicians and a high society which buy anything and anyone populate this book. But it is also a book about the writer who tries to conceive a novel called ‘Bufo & Spallanzani”.
I almost forgot: there are various murder cases to be solved. The write himself is sometimes the main suspect.
He characterises himself as extremely obese. Of course, his obesity is just an expression for his lust for life: food, women, vine. But every time he dares to participate as normal man in life he gets into trouble as a murder suspect.
The second book I read in Portuguese and I liked it a lot.,
