by William Faulkner
Another American classic I read in the last month. This one was hard to get through. In the beginning I got constantly lost regarding who was actually speaking during the dialogues. Very disconcerting! Maybe is is just the German translation. I made it through. It is perfectly constructed from a theoretical story telling point of view. I just did not understand teh story. The description of the tension in each is brilliant, catching and physically painful. Yes, it is almost a movie!
You see my descriptions oscillates between disappointment and admiration which is not understood. I still can not make any sense out of the story. It unfolds around a night on a remote farm in the middle of America’s nowhere during the prohibition. There, they illegally produce liqueur. Several closed and opaque persons meet and one is left behind dead. Everything goes wrong, even the wrong person is hanged for it. But all seems so consistent. .. Maybe!
