by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The great Gatsby and his great exaggerations. Interestingly, Gatsby is not the main person in the plot – but this character weaves every thread of the story together. I guess everybody feels the same reading this novel: someone should turn away from this cheap boaster, but soon you want him to get his eternal love back.
Nevertheless, I have to admit that I was more interested in the story teller’s fate than in Gatsby’s. Maybe Gatsby’s condition as a “criminal” is not criminal anymore, as it was when the book was written. Moreover, boasters are more accepted now – sometimes it is even required to be one. I guess it is not so exclusive anymore to belong to the upper class. Definitely a more democratic approach. You have money or you don’t, no matter where do you come from.
The book conclude that one looser shots another, saying that you do not belong to that class. But as I said that was in the twenties. I definitely like the story and how it was translated.
