by Arno Schmidt
if you expect an absorbing tale, just do not read it. It is a simple story in the after-war Germany. But Arno Schmidt’s mastering of the German language and its underlying meanings is just surprising with every page you read. I am not sure you one could adequately translate it, it must be a different book. He uses a very unique style of punctuation that brings the spoken word to life, and reveals these unexpected meanings and twists of a language. – Written in 1956 and it still appears to be very experimental. Indeed an elaborated experiment.
