by Franz Kafka
Kafka’s linguistic style is unmatched, at least fro me. This fragmentary book is really strange for the contemporary reader. America is still in its infancy but at the brink of becoming the future super-power. The protagonist Karl Roßmann is actually no ready for this new, powerful life in America. He has his inner world where he harmonises everything what happens to him. We observers can see that it does not match with reality. It reminds me to “The Idiot” of Dostojewski. Nevertheless, you will find all the typical “Kafkanian” ingredients: obscure authorities and powers which exercise unexplainable power over you life. It is often a funny book, I still prefer the other famous books from Kafka.
